So Long Mr. Camera

So I don't actually call my camera Mr. Camera...but this weekend I discovered that the flash was no longer working on my Canon Power Shot A720 IS. I HATE being without a camera. I've owned 3 Canon cameras in the last 10 years and they have all malfunctioned, so maybe next time I won't be buying Canon. I'm glad I bought the 4 year extended warranty at Future Shop though. The girl was really nice and I had no problems. They have to send it away for repairs though, anywhere from 4-6 weeks. Knowing how things usually work though it will be longer. So I will have to borrow a camera or make my friends take pictures...how will I survive? haha

An Education

So, along with two friends, I went to Guleph monday night to see An Education at the Bookstore. (As a side note we went to the Red Brick Cafe beforehand and it was really cool. We did the wine sampling for $8 - such a deal. I would definitely go back). The movie takes place in a suburb of London during the early 1960's. The main character is this really smart girl whose goal (as determined by her parents) is to go to Oxford to study English. She meets an older man one rainy day and an emotional affair begins. Very deep and twisty (not in a weirdo way though). I don't want to spoil the movie so I won't say more. The male lead Peter Saarsgaard is not British but you'd never know it (my friend actually found that the cast was all English except for him). I was pleasantly surprised to see Dominic Cooper as well. The blond is from Pride and Prejudice (the Keira Knightly version). The costuming is awesome and it makes you want to go live in that time, even if just for a bit.

Product Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer

I love this product. I was skeptical since any other product that claimed to keep eyeshadow from shifting failed. I have one friend who can wear her eye makeup all day and night, then sleep and wake up and it will still look nearly perfect. Me, no so much. Usually a few hours later it's all collected in my eyelid crease. So I decided to try this product after reading many glowing reviews. And guess what? IT WORKS. I'll get home from work and my eyeshadow is still where I put it in the morning. Also, the colour is more intense so you have to use less eyeshadow to begin with.

Penguin Cake

So I love penguins. Not sure why. Actually it's because they are perfectly crunchy cute waddlers. Like get cuter. When I was growing up it was Dolphins but now its definitely penguins. So last weekend I decided to make a penguin cake. I am by no means a "cake boss" but I think it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. First I baked 2 cupcakes (the feet) and then a rectangular cake for the body. I trimmed the top to get the wings. Then I iced him, thought I would make him wear a bow-tie a la Chuck Bass.

10 Tips to Being Photogenic

So I read these tips in a magazine recently...I will paraphrase and put my own spin on them...enjoy. I do not guarantee any results, but if they make you more photogenic then I will take the credit.

1- Stand Like the Celebs

So basically they said you should stand with your torso twisted, one shoulder facing the camera and one pointing away. Oh and I also heard somewhere else to put your hand on your hip - it makes your arms see slimmer.

2 - Wear Lip Gloss

So maybe this tip is for girls only. The recommend a barry colour since it's supposed to be universally flattering.

3 - Be Sober

No drunk pictures.

4 - Lay Off the Hairspray

They recommend "natural hair", I don't think they mean bedhead though unless that is the look you are going for...

5 - Use a Good Camera

Do I really have to elaborate?

6 - Stick Your Neck Out

Maybe don't overdo this one though, you could look crazy.

7 - Sunrise or Sunset

These times of day have the most flattering light. No glaring sun in your eyeball or bright flash making you look white at night.

8 - Reduce the Shine

Don't look all sweaty, again unless that's the look you are going for. They recommend some blotting powder.

9 - Say "Money"

Don't say cheese say money. I've tried this one and it works actually. The smile is much better. Plus who wants to yell cheese?

10 - Trademark Your Look

o you know how models have a signature walk or stare, that's what the article said to do. This Zoolander. People tell me I tilt my head to the side like 90% of the time when I pose. Practice in the mirror - that's what Tyra tells her models to do.
